If our concern is the ratio of output to a single input, then we have a partial productivity measure
If it is the ratio of output to a group of inputs (but not all inputs) we have a multifactor productivity measure
If it is to express the ratio of all outputs to all inputs, we have a total factor measure of productivity, which might be used to describe the productivity of an entire organisation
CASE STUDY
Cisco System Inc,. USA, has used the web to convert it’s expenses reporting system to a self service process that requires only two people to handle 15,000 report filed each month. The system cost $5 per report compared with $50 per report for the industry. That’s a saving of $675,000 a month. Pete Solvik, Cisco Chief Information Officer, says the system paid for itself in three months.
This is the use of the web to increase productivity and save cost
