3.2 PREPARATION OF MATERIAL
Cow bone was obtained from the abattoir in Ipata area in Ilorin. The cow bones were sun – dried after careful separation from flesh, tissues and fats. The ash was carried out by incinerating the bone at a temperature of 900ᵒC in a furnace. Only the organic matter was destroyed leaving a white mass of bone salt.
Groundnut shell ash was obtained by burning groundnut shells on an iron sheet in the open air under normal temperature. The idea of burning them in furnace was dropped because it will be time consuming and uneconomical for most people especially those that at the rural levels. The ash was packed in polythene bags to prevent water absorption and for water proofing and stored in a cool dry place.
