2.9 EFFECT OF TEMPERING
Nickel-chrome alloy steels are in wide use where a material possessing a high tensile strength combined with a fair measure of ductility is required. A typical heat treatment which will bring out the best combination of mechanical properties is a hardening from about 850^0 C, followed by tempering at about 180^0C. Tempering slightly reduces the ultimate strength while state raising the yield point form the hilly hardened state.
