3.2 SHAPING OF SPECIMEN
3.2.1 Lathe Machine
There are varieties of lathe machines that are available for use in the industries and engineering workshops. Although some of them may b simple or complex in operations, the main aim is to produce a given geometrical surface within certain limits of accuracy.
The main parts of the late machine are;
a. The bed
b. Tail stock
c. Head stock
d. The carriage/saddle
e. Face plate
f. The chuck
g. Cross slides
h. The tool post
i. Coolant tray
j. Gearbox
k. The centers
l. The compound slide
3.3 TENSILE STRENGTH TEST
13.3.1 The Tensometer
The general Description
The tensometer is a highly versatile testing machine. It can be used to carry out the following tests.
a) Elongation and Tensile strength
b) Shear and compressive strength
c) Hardness, ductility and plasticity
d) Flexural, stripping and tearing resistance
With the machine, there is the choice of cover 100 accessories and attachments to cover most of the varied requirements for research and development. The machine is versatile and relatively inexpensive. It has a very high cost performance rating. With overall dimensions of approximately 965mm(L) X 235mm (W) X 230mm (H) and a weight of 20kg. It can be powdered or manually operated on any small laboratory bench or table.
