Results for the average yield, ultimate, breaking strength, modulus of elasticity, average percentage reduction in area and average percentage elongation far the specimens are shown below;
4.3 DISCUSSION
From the result, the characteristic of mild steel is lower than that of high yield steel which is 46ON/mm2. When compared with other ductile materials like aluminum yield steel etc, the stress- strain curve of mild steel has a yield point there is an increase in strain with no increase in stress. Therefore the results of the mild steel specimens are in accordance with the BS8110 specified characteristics strength of 250 N/mm2 for mild steel.
