    • CRUDE METHODS OF BIRTH CONTROL: these are  the crude ways used by our forefather in preventing pregnancy from occurring. They include:-  
      -    Women avoiding the sum or moon
      -    Women wearing charms such as dead spider, child’s tooth, rings etc.
      -    Women drinking tea made from various kinds of wed, roots, trees, leaves and water used in washing dead bodies
      -    Women performing vigorous exercise after intercourse to dislodge or prevent sperms from entering through the cervix to meet with the ovum.
      -    The women being requested to hold her breath during the man’s organism so that muscular spasms would prevent sperm entry
      -    Soaking cotton wool in pepper and inserting it into the vagina as mechanical and chemical barrier
      -    Holding down the man and crushing his testes with a stone
      -    Using animal membrance as condom to cover man’s penis
      -    Procuring abortion       
      -    Killing the unwanted babies.
      TRADITIONAL METHODS: Traditional birth control methods are practices, beliefs customs and ideas used in controlling child birth before the advent of modern contraceptives. They have existed for many yea is and are handed downs from generation to another mostly by words of month in order to achieve fertility regulation. They are divided into two categories:-  (a) non-appliance method and (b) appliance method.
      A.    NON-APPLIANCE METHOD
      Methods that do not need the attention of the herbalist but are self administered they include the following
      i.    Abstinence
      ii.    Culturally enforced virginity
      iii.    Abstinence by prolonged breastfeeding
      iv.    Polygamy
      v.    Physical exercise after-sexual intercourse
      vi.    Douching
      B.    APPLIANCE METHOD: These are those methods that need the attention of herbalist. They include:
      i.    Oral drinking of local herebs, potassium, blue etc.
      ii.    Scarification wearing of charms, beads arm band etc.
      iii.    Traditional barrier method visible and non-visible
      iv.    Spirituality powers evoking the spirit of fertility to cause either temporary or permanent, sterility.
      v.    Using salt, lime; vinegar etc. to was vagina after intercourse.
      ADVANTAGES OF TRADITIONAL METHODS:
      1.    It helps when modern methods are not available
      2.    The methods are accessible to the grass root
      3.    It supports the belief system already held by man
      4.    It does not require change in behavior
      5.    Some methods like breast feeding and abstinence are effective and beneficial to mother and baby
      DSISADVANTAGES
      1.    The mechanisms of action  is not clearly stated
      2.    Effectiveness can not be measured
      3.    Some of the articles used are injurious
      4.    Some of the methods are irreversible especially when there is a mistake from the operator
      5.    Some of the articles are difficult to get
      6.    Some methods can only be operated by traditionalists.
      7.    Most methods are unhygienic
      8.    The woman that uses these methods may be at the mercy of the traditionalist
