Form his study servey, he observed that in most society (Igbo in particular) each family wants to have as many children as the wife can produce because they believe that the more children a family bears the more its glory. He further stated that “traditionally, extended family is bound up with numerous the cultural practices that favour large families including numerous manpower to cultivate lands and possibility of wealth acquisition, defense against attacks from enemies etc.
Another factor that hinder the acceptance of family planning as identified by Olawumi (1991) is the issue of male child syndrome.
According to him, our society value make children mote than females and as such a man will prefer to have to him our society value make children this will continue to have more children until he set the number of males he want.
Ajayi (2005) commented that “illiteracy and inadequate knowledge influences the rural women’s attitude toward family planning. They see family planning as abomination and continue to jeopardize their health by having 10-12 children even at old ageâ€
Jones (1998) added that in developed countries, men and women have chosen to have fewer children using modern family planning method while other see children as valuable in the society where poverty reigns.
2.4 THEORETICAL FRAME WORK
RAKEAH VALUE SYSTEM (1975). This theory states that “value is an enriching belief that specifies mode of conduct, or a state of exercise which is personally or socially preferable to an opposite or converse mode of conduct or end state of existenceâ€.
She started that values are standards that guide ongoing activists and may include religious cultural, traditional, economic, and personal values and belief in life. The individual may see the need to adopt family planning services but if the other partner, the religion and culture in the society does not permit it she find it difficult to do so. Conversely, when a women values the need for child spacing, and its related benefits, she practice the method of family planning so chosen through counseling and then decides to have more knowledge on it so as to get involve.
This value system and knowledge will maker her to have right attitude towards family planning and practices e.g if a women values billing ovulation methods it motivate her to learn more about the method so as to work for her when this is achieved she decide to use it despite the high degree of uncertainty.
