3.2.2.2 NOISE GENERATOR CIRCUIT
Without noise, the output of the VCO is just an un-modulated sweeping RF carrier. The noise generator circuit shown in Figure 3.4 produces noise (Frequency Modulated (FM) modulating the RF carrier with noise) which is mixed with the triangular signal. To generate the noise signal, the zener diode is used in reverse mode. This is because; operating in the reverse mode will cause avalanche effect. Avalanche effect in this stage means it will create a wide band noise. This noise is then amplified and used in our design. We use two amplification stages: in the first stage, we use NPN transistor as common emitter, and in the second stage, we use the LM386 IC.
