3.2.3 RADIO FREQUENCY SECTION
Radio Frequency section is the most important part of this design because the output of the RF section will interface with the transmission of mobile signal. This section contains three parts which is: Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), Power Amplifier and Antenna.
3.2.3.1 VOLTAGE CONTROLLED OSCILLATOR
The most important part in this section is Voltage Controlled Oscillator. This is because the Voltage Controlled Oscillator will generate the RF signal which will block or interfere with the mobile signal transmission. The output of the Voltage Controlled Oscillator has a frequency which is proportionally with the input voltage, that is, we can change the output frequency by changing the input voltage. Three criteria were considered in selecting an appropriate Voltage Controlled Oscillator:
(a) The bands of operation.
(b) Low cost.
(c) Low power consumption.
In achieving the goals stated above, CVCO55BE for GSM 1800 was applicable. The output frequency is 1874-2074 MHz and the output power is up to 8 dBm. The VCO is shown in Figure 3.8. This component is a surface mount thus reducing the size of the jammer. It has a large output power which reduced the number of amplification stages and takes an input voltage of 5V which is the same as that supplied by the power supply unit. It also has the same noise property.
