Validity of the Instrument
The validity of an instrument is usually concerned with the question of whether or not it measures what it purposed to measure Adewumi (1988) stated that an instrument is valid when it measures truly and accurately the quantity and ability it expected to measure. In order to ensure validity of the instrument used for this study Need for guidance and Counselling services questionnaire (NGCSQ), it was to given to four experts in the Department of Counsellor Education, University of Ilorin for scrutiny. The approval of the instrument by the experts ascertained the validity of the instrument in evaluating the need for guidance and Counselling services in primary school in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State.
Reliability of the Instrument
The reliability of an instrument is concerned with the extent to which the test scores are consistent after several administrations. Therefore in order to ensure the reliability of the instrument used for this study, the test re-test method is used. The administration of the test instrument with a random. Sample with (10) ten teachers and the same repeated after a four-week interval. The scores form the first an second administration will be compared to each other. The Pearson Product Movement Co-efficient Correlation formular was used to get the different.
Procedure for Collecting Data
A total of two hundred (200) questionnaire forms were distributed hundred (200) questionnaire forms were distributed for the purpose of this study.
The researcher personally went to ten (10) selected primary schools to get official permission from the school headmasters and headmistress to involve twenty (20) of their classroom teachers and solicit for the teachers in filling the returning promptly questionnaire forms given to them. The researcher followed the same code of administration of the questionnaire forms in all the selected primary schools.
The researcher administered questionnaire forms within fifteen days, (three weeks) because the school, are located in different part of Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State.
The questionnaire forms were collected back on the sport to avoid missing on each of the data used to administered the questionnaire forms.
Data Analysis Technique
For the purpose of obtaining data for the study frequency counts, simple percentages and means were used to compute the demographic data while t-test and one way analysis of variance statistical methods were used to test the hypotheses.
