This study examines the attitudes of secondary school students toward the Igbo language in selected schools within the study area. The research evaluates students’ interest in learning Igbo, their perception of its value, and the factors influencing their enthusiasm or reluctance. Data were gathered using questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations.
Findings indicate that although students acknowledge the cultural importance of Igbo, many still prioritise English due to academic expectations and societal prestige. The study highlights the need for improved teaching methods, curriculum updates, and community involvement to strengthen positive attitudes towards Igbo among younger learners.
