3.2 DESIGN CALCULATION
This refers to some characteristics which affects or influence the design of the machine or perhaps some of the components. However, out of the numerous factors that affected the design, only one or few will turn out to be the major factors and the minors ignored as they would have little or no effect in the design. These factors or characteristics are:
• Thermal conductivity of the material
• Strength of the materials used
• Overall weight of the machine in order to achieve its portability and machine size
• Ease of maintenance
• Noise and vibration
• Resistance to corrosion attack, and
• Finishing
3.2.1 VOLUME OF BOWL
In this design, one of the important factors is to determine the volume of the bowl, which will give the maximum capacity of the machine. Hence, the volume of bowl can be determined.Length = 1200mm
Width = 900mm
Height = 750mm

3.2.2 MASS OF THE BEATER
The effective area of the beater is calculated thus;
A = BH + bh
Where
A = Effective area of the beater
B = Width of beater
h = height of the beater
H = Total length of beater
b = [H – B]

A = BH + bh
= [0.08 x 0.22] + [0.07 x 0.133]
= 0.027m2
A = 0.027m2
Volume of space occupied by the beater inside the trough
Vb = Ah
= 0.027 x 0.133
= 3.58 x 103m3
