4.3.1 TYPES OF EVAPORATOR
Evaporators are mainly classified as:
i. The dry or direct expansion type
ii. The flooded type.
I. THE DRY OR DIRECT EXPANSION TYPE
A part of the heat transfer surface is used for superheating the vapor. Therefore refrigerant leaves the coil in a dry state that is as a dry vapor. [Althouse, A. D(1968)].
II. THE FLOODED TYPE
If flooded evaporators, the liquid refrigerant covers the entire heat- surface. As the liquid refrigerant leaves the evaporator, any liquid refrigerant present is recalculated, this allowing only slightly superheated gas to enter the compressor.
4.4 PRESSURE GAUGES AND THERMOMETERS
There are two (2) types of pressure gauges in refrigeration system:
i. One is to register pressure from high-side while
ii. The other register pressure at low-side of the system.
Thermometer is required to measure the high-side and low-side temperatures of the system. Both the thermometer and the pressure gauges are not required for the operation of the system, but they are mainly measuring instruments. [Gunther. C .R (1973)].
