Mercury is a chemical element with the symbol Hg and atomic number 80. It is commonly known as quicksilver and was formerly named hydrargyrum (Random House, 2001). It was because of its appearance and how it moves it was called quicksilver. Mercury is a heavy, silvery d-block element of the periodic, mercury is the only metallic element that is liquid at room temperature (25o C) and pressure. It is a naturally occurring element in the Earth’s crust.
