I = Treatment group; J = control group. The results of pairwise comparisons revealed that those of the treatment group had less stigma consciousness than control group, P < .001. Treatment group had more and increased social support than control group P < .001. Similarly, treatment group was more information seeking than control group P < .02; also treatment group was more problem focus than control group P < .02. Therefore use of cognitive therapy is effective intervention measures for management of HIV/AIDS by reducing stigma consciousness, increase social support, information seeking and problem focus.
Summary of findings
The followings were the findings of this study: Stigma consciousness had significant real effect on CD4 counts of PLWHA. Significant difference was found between those PLWHA who scored low and their counterparts who scored high in social support when their CD4 counts were measured. There was significant difference between those who seek information and those who avoid information in their measures of CD4 counts. Problem coping produced significant main effect on CD4 counts of those PLWHA. There were no interaction effects among stigma consciousness, social support, information coping, and problem copings on CD4 counts of PLWHA. Cognitive therapy was found to be effective in reducing stigma consciousness, increasing social support, instill information seeking and problem focus behaviour on PLWHA.

Retroviral Therapy (ART) sites were randomly selected from the three senatorial
zones of ... Continue reading---
